Extrusion billets in 6063, 6061 and 6082, rolling slab and EC-grade or 6201 wire rod connect smelters and cast houses to extruders, rolling mills and cable makers. Diameter, chemistry, homogenisation and conductivity matter most.
Where it comes from: Extrusion billets are cast by primary producers' cast houses and by secondary billet casters with homogenising furnaces. EC-grade and 6201 alloy wire rod comes mainly from primary producers' continuous rod mills.

What buyers check
- Dimensions / tolerance: Write down the size and the allowed variation, for example thickness, width, diameter or length with plus and minus limits, and agree how they will be measured.
- Homogenisation: Homogenisation is a heat treatment of cast billet that evens out the structure for better extrusion. Ask whether billets are homogenised and request confirmation on the certificate.
- Chemical composition: List the alloy standard and the limits for key elements such as Si, Cu, Fe, Mg, Zn and Mn. Ask for a composition report with every lot and keep the right to test on arrival.
- Mill test certificate: A mill test certificate records chemistry and mechanical properties for a lot, linked by heat or batch number. Ask for one with every dispatch and match the numbers to the material.
- Recycled content: If you need recycled content for customer or ESG reporting, agree how it is defined and what documentation the supplier will provide to support the claim.
- Alloy & temper: Always specify both, for example 6063-T6 or 5052-H32. The alloy sets the chemistry and the temper sets strength and formability.
- Commercial terms: rate basis, GST, freight, payment terms, delivery schedule and quotation validity, all in writing before dispatch.
