8011 belongs to the 8xxx series, where the main alloying elements are other than those of the 1xxx to 7xxx groups. It contains roughly 0.6-1.0% iron and 0.5-0.9% silicon. These additions give foil better strength and pinhole resistance than pure aluminium at very thin gauges, while keeping good formability. It is rolled to thin strip and foil and supplied in soft (O) or harder H tempers.
Why it matters when buying
- Specify thickness in microns, width, core ID, coil weight and temper.
- For pharma and food packaging, ask about pinhole count, wettability, surface cleanliness and food-contact compliance.
- Foil of 0.2 mm or less falls under HSN heading 7607; thicker strip is 7606, which affects invoicing and import duty.
- Lacquered or laminated foil needs the coating specification stated separately.
Typical uses
Household and kitchen foil, food containers, pharma blister and strip foil, ROPP bottle caps and closures, air-conditioner fin stock, and cable wrap. Related grades such as 8079 and 1235 are also used for thin foil. Browse aluminium foil listings.
